EYE DROPS 0.5%
Chloramphenicol is a bacteriostatic antibiotic with a wide antibacterial spectrum of action, including gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, microplasma, rickettsie and clamide.
Each ml of solution contains:
Chloramphenicol 5 mg, Borax, Boric Acid, Phenyl Mercuric Nitrate. Water q.s.
For each external ocular infection in particular conjunctivitis, keratitis, kerato-conjunctivitis by virus, dacriocystitis, trachoma, blepharitis, mechanical and technical trauma. In pre-operating and post operating treatments.
Instill one or two drops of Chloramphenicol 3 to 8 times a day, or according to Medical prescription.
Patients hypersensitive to Chloramphenicol.
Chloramphenicol used for a long time and in excessive doses can develop toxic phenomena. In women during pregnancy and in the first infancy, you should use Chloramphenicol only in necessary conditions and according to Medical prescription only.
Occasionally you can feel actions of sensitiveness as burning, urticaria, dermatitis, vesicular dermatitis. Local allergic reactions of different range, as visual and tubercular infections, optic retrobulbar neuropathy scotoma, internal ophthalmoplegia of the iris toxic ambilopia, paralysis of extraocular muscles.
Treatment- Symptomatic therapy. A prolonged continuous use should lead to super infection by drug resistant micro-organisms. You should interrupt its administration as soon as you note the arising of allergic signals that can be treated with topical application of hydrocortisone and/ or antihistamines per oral way.
