INTRODUCTION

Cikaclox is a composition of Ampicillin Trihydrate (125mg base) and Pencillinase resistant Cloxadilllin sodium (125mg base), which is a wide spectrum antibiotic effective against a range of Gram positive and Gram negative organisms.
ABSORPOTION AND EXCRETION

Cikaclox is acid stable and well absorbed orally giving peak serum levels about 2 hrs after dosing. It is excreted primarily by the kidney through glomerular filtration and tubular secretion.

 

INDICATIONS

Cikaclox is effective in the treatment of the following bacterial infections:

– Respiratory Tract Infections (Upper and Lower)

– Ear, Nose and Throat infections

– Bone and joints infections

– Pelvic infections

– Gastro-intestinal infections

– Urinary Tract infections

– Septicaemia, Endocarditis and Orthopaedic infections.

 

SIDE EFFECTS

Diarrhoea, Nausea and hearthum. Allergic reactions, skin rashes, interstitial nepritis and Vasculitis.

 

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

Administer half hour before meals

Syrup: Children: 1 month-2years: one teaspoonful 4 times daily 2-10 years: two teaspoonfuls 4 times daily

Drop: 0.6ml: 4 times daily or as directed by physician

Capsule: One capsule:4 times daily or as directed by physician

 

PREPARATION OF THE SUSPENSION

To make 100ml of the suspension, add 72.5ml of boiled and cooled water, invert and shake the bottle until all powder is dispersed.

SHAKE WELL BEFORE EACH DOSE

 

STORAGE

The dry powder should be stored below 25°C. The suspension should be used within 7 days of preparation and stored in a cool place preferably in a refrigerator.

 

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Penicillin Hypersensitivity

 

PRECAUTIONS

Reduced dosage is required in patients with impaired renal functions e.g. renal failure; Neonates and premature infants.

 

COMPOSITION AND AVAILABILITY

SUSPENSION: 250mg powder syrup. When reconstituted each 5ml contains 125mg ampicillin as the trihydrate BP plus 125mg Cloxacillin as the sodium salt BP. In 100ml bottle

CAPSULES: 500mg: 250mg ampicillin as Ampicillin Trihydrate BP and 250mg Cloxacillin as Cloxacillin Sodium BP.
