CHLORPHENIRAMINE TABLETS 4 mg B.P.
Each tablet contains:
Chlorpheniramine B.P. 4 mg
1. Seasonal allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis
2. Acute and chronic urticaria
3. Atopic dermatitis
4. Allergic asthma, angioedema
5. Systemic anaphylaxis
Chlorpheniramine maleate is given in doses of 4 mg every 4 to 6 hours up to a maximum of 24 mg daily. Doses recommended for children are: 1 to 2 years, 1 mg twice daily; 2 to 5 years, 1 mg every 4 to 6 hours ( maximum 6 mg daily); 6 to 12 years, 2 mg every 4 to 6 hours (maximum 12 mg daily).
The symptomatic adverse effect with therapeutic dose (15-25 mg daily) of chlorpheniramine maleate include slight to moderate drowsiness, dry mouth, and blurred vision which all represent the undesirable pharmacological efcets of the drug. These effects occur in up to one-thrid of patients, and they are less frequent than those reported after therapeutic doses of diphenhydramine and triprolidine.
1. Known allergy to chlorpheniramine.
2. Not recommended to be used during pregnancy.
