Each hard gelatin capsule contains:

Loperamide Hydrochloride BP 2mg

Excipients q.s.

Aproved colour used in empty hard gelatin capsule shells.



Loperamide belongs to a group of medicines called ‘antidirrhoeals’ which are used to treat diarrhea. It is used to treat sudden acute cases of diarrhoea in adults and in children over 2 years of age by slowing down an overactive bowel. It also helps the body to absorb more water and salts from the bowel.



Symptomatic relief of acute and chronic diarrhoea.



-Allergic reactions which can produce swelling of the face, eyes, tongue or lips, difficulty breathing and/or swallowing or itching.

-Severe skin rashes including blistering of skin, mouth, eyes and genitals.

-Mega colon including toxic mega colon (abnormal enlargement of the intestines).

-Toxic epidermal necrolysis (serious illness with blistering of the skin.

-Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (serious illness with blistering of the skin, mouth, eyes and genitals).


Special precautions

-Do not take this medicine while driving and machine operation because it causes drowsiness and sleepiness.

-Do not take this medicine during pregnancy and breast feeding.


Drug interactions

Loperamide may interact with other medicine. In particular you should tell your doctor or Pharmacist if you are taking any of the following:

-Co-trimoxazole, an antibiotic, used in the treatment of bacterial infections such as chronic Bronchitis.

-Quinidine, used in the treatment of abnormal heartbeat.
-Ritonavir, used in the treatment of HIV infection and AIDS


Dosage and Administration

Acute diarrhoea

Adults: Take 2 capsules to begin with and then 1 capsule after each episode of diarrhea for up to 5 days.

Children: 9-12 years: Take 1 capsule 4 times daily for up to 5 days.

4-8 years: Not recommended for use in children aged 4-8 years.


Chronic diarrhoea

Adults: Initial dose will be between 2 and 4 capsules per day taken in divided doses. Never take more than 8 capsules in any 24 hours period or as directed by the physician.



Store below 30oC in a dry and dark place.

Keep medicine away from children.
