Each soft gelatin capsule contains:
Cod Liver Oil BP 300mg
Cod Liver Oil is a rich source of the fat soluble vitamins A and D. it also contains several unsaturated fatty acids which are essential food factors.
Cod Liver Oil is indicated for the prophylaxis or treatment of vitamin D deficiency associated with restricted diets, improper food intake and decreased absorption or utilization, it also indicated in patients with increased requirement for vitamins due to chronic disease or infection. It also promotes resistance to cough, cold and chest bronchial trouble.
Known hyper sensitivity to any of the vitamins in the product.
ADVERSE DRUG REACTIONS
Cod Liver Oil capsules are well tolerated and toxicity wise an innocuous product. No major adverse reactions during studies with Cod Liver Oil capsules have been reported. Ocassionally nausea may occur in some patients.
ANTIDOTE IN THE EVENT OF OVERDOSE
Experience with the overdose of Cod Liver Oil are limited. However, general principles of treatment include the institution of gastric lavage or emesis, forcing oral fluids and the administration of intravenous fluids if urine output is low and renal function is normal. The patient should be monitored with blood counts and appropriate blood chemistry, including electrolytes.
PREGNANCY AND LACTATION
Use of Cod Liver Oil during pregnancy is associated with lower risk of Type 1 diabetes in the offspring. This effect was found only in mothers taking Cod Liver Oil, not in mothers taking multivitamins supplements. Cod Liver Oil taken by nursing mothers improves the fatty acid profile in breast milk to promote optimal brain development and also increases levels of vitamin A to prevent infections. Interestingly,Cold Liver Oil does not provide increased vitamin D in breast milk.
Cod Liver Oil given to infants after birth and during the frist year had no protective effect against Type 1 diabetes but it nevertheless is an important source of nutrients for optimal infant health.
One or Two capsule(s) three times per day or as recommended by the physician.
Store in a cool (below 25oC) and dry place, protect from light.
