HC 12
HC 12 is a compound drug of two major active ingredients both of which are required for proper red blood cell maturation and gas transport (Haemoglobin and Cyanocobalamin (vitamin B 12).
Haemoglobin, a conjugated protein comprising 95% red blood cell dry weight, contains Heme, which is an iron-carrying component of red blood cell. Lack of Haemoglobin therefore presents patients’ with microcytic, Hypochromic anemia markedly seen in patients with iron deficiency anemia. As a result of its iron carrying function, delivery of oxygen to tissue and removal of carbon dioxide, low Haemoglobin count could therefore present condition of Exertional dyspnea (difficult breathing). Light-headedness, vertigo, muscle weakness, headaches and general lethargy.
Vitamin B12 (Cyanocobalamin) is essential for red blood cell maturation; lack of it presents a Heamatological result of macrocytic, normochrqruc anemias often seen in megaloblastic anemias, like pernicious anemia.
INDICATIONS
Microcytic, Hypochromic anemias of low iron level or MCH (mean cell hemogobin), surgical or accidental blood loss, megaloblastic anemia arising from B12 deficiency due to malnutrition where intrinsic factors (IF) are normal.
CAUTION
Pernicious anemias where intrinsic factors are compromised are not responsive to oral B12 and are better treated intravenously.
CONTRA-INDICATION
Patient with sensitivity to cobalt or cyanocobalamin and patients with lebers disease.
