HYDREX (HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE) TABLET
Each tablet contains Hydrochlorothiazide B.P. 25mg.
Hydrex is thiazide diuretic that increases urine excretion of sodium and water inhibiting sodium reabsorption at the beginning of the distal convoluted tubule.
Hydrex achieves onset of diuretic action within 1 to 2 hours and this is sustained for 12 to 24 hours.
Hydrex is indicated in the treatment of oedema and hypertension. It can be used alone or as an adjunct to other antihypertensive agents.
Refractory hypokalemia, hyponatrameia, severe renal and hepatic impairment, Symptomatic hyperuricaemia, Addison’s disease.
WARNINGS AND PRECAUTION
Hydrex may cause hypokalaemia, aggravates diabetes and gout; may exacerbate systemic lupus erythematosus. It is to be used with caution in the elderly; pregnancy and breast-feeding.
Alcohol, barbiturates or narcotics when used with thiazide diuretics, orthostatic hypotension may occur.
Postural hypotension and gastro-intestinal effects, impotence, reversible on withdrawal of treatment, hypokelaemia, hypomagnesaeia, hyponatraemia, hypercalcaeia, hypochloraemic alkalosis, hyperuricaemia, gout, hyperglycaemia and altered plasma lipid concentration; less commonly rashes, photosensitivity; blood disorders and hypersensitivity reactions.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Oedema: initially 25-50mg daily, reduced for maintenance if possible; severe oedema in patients unable to tolerate Loop diuretics, initially 75mg daily.
Hypertension: 25mg of Hydrex daily, increased to 50mg daily if necessary.
Elderly: In some patients (especially the elderly) an initial dose of 12.5mg daily may be sufficient.
Hydrex tablets are scored, white and round with HCT\25 and JHL inscribed on both faces respectively, supplied in blister packs of 100s (10 x 10 strips) and jars of 500s.
