Zolat Albendazole Caplet and Suspension

ZOLAT Albendazole

Each caplet of ZOLAT contains 200mg of albendazole.

Each 5ml of pleasant tasting suspension contains 100mg albendazole.



ZOLAT is a broad spectrum anthelmintic used for the treatment of:

Trichuris – Whipworm

Anchylostoma duodenale – Hookworm

Ascaris lumbricoides – Large roundworm

Enterobius vermiculars – Pinworms or thread worm

Taenia spp. – Tapeworm

Strongiloides stercoralis

Necator americanus – Hookworm either as mixed or single infestation.


Dosage and Administration

As prescribed by physician.


Usual dose in both adults and children over 2 years of age: 400mg (two 200mg) ZOLAT caplets or (20ml of ZOLAT suspension) as a single dose in cases of Enterobious vermicularis, Trichuris, Trichiura, Ascaris lumbricoides, Ancylostoma duodenale and Necator americanus.

In cases of Strongilodiasis or Taeniasis ZOLAT 400mg as a single dose should be given for 3 consecutive days. If the patient is not cured on the follow-up after treatment is indicated. The caplet can be swallowed, chewed, crushed or mixed with food or drink. ZOLAT can be taken with or without meals and no specific procedure such as purging or fasting is required.


Contra-Indication and Caution

Use in pregnancy

Albendazole was found to be embryotoxic and teratogenic in rat and rabbit, its use is therefore contraindicated in pregnant women or in women of child bearing age. ZOLAT should only be administered within the first seven (7) days of normal menstruation.


Adverse reaction

A few cases of gastrointestinal discomfort and headache have been reported, but no definite relationship has been shown.


Further Information

ZOLAT has been evaluated in children under 2 years of age where a single dose of 200mg was found to be effective in common helminth infestations, in Hymenolepis nana, a dose of 400mg for 3 consecutive days has been found to be effective.

In addition to its vermicidal properties albendazole has been found to have both ovicidal and larvicidal properties in man.



Two (2) caplet blister packs 20ml suspension bottles.


Precautions and Storage

Store in a cool dry place. Protect from direct sunlight.
